This day is kept simple to allow you to rest after your journey and settle into the environment. Depending on your arrival time, you may relax at the lodge or take a short walk around the area. In the evening, your guide will brief you about the safari ahead, explaining the route, expectations, and answering any questions you may have. This relaxed start ensures you are well-prepared and comfortable before heading into the 6-Day Tanzania Migration Safari | Ndutu Calving Season Jan - March.

Day 2: Arusha to Ndutu – Entering the Migration Area

After breakfast, you begin your journey toward Ndutu, located in the southern Serengeti ecosystem. The drive takes you through changing landscapes, from highlands to open plains, gradually introducing you to the safari environment. Along the way, you may already start spotting wildlife as you approach the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and Ndutu region. By the time you arrive, the scenery opens up into wide grasslands where the migration takes place. You will enjoy your first game drive in the area, where you may see large herds of wildebeest and zebras spread across the plains. The feeling here is different — open, active, and full of life.

1 NIGHT
Meals: All meals included
Serengeti classic view migration camp
6 Days Tanzania Family Safari | Arusha, Tarangire, Ngorongoro & Manyara
Day 3–4: Ndutu – Calving Season & Predator Action

These two days are dedicated to exploring Ndutu and fully experiencing the migration.

During the calving season, thousands of wildebeest give birth every day, and this attracts predators such as lions, cheetahs, and hyenas. This creates a constant cycle of movement and interaction, making every game drive unique and exciting. The open plains make it easier to see wildlife, and off-road driving is allowed in Ndutu, which means your guide can follow the action more closely. You may witness newborn calves taking their first steps, predators watching from a distance, or even hunting moments, depending on timing.

The experience here is not about searching — it’s about being surrounded by wildlife. The density of animals is high, and the activity level is constant, making this one of the most rewarding safari experiences in Tanzania. Each day is flexible, with morning and afternoon game drives adjusted based on where the action is happening.

Day 5: Ndutu to Ngorongoro Crater – Big Five Experience

After breakfast, you leave Ndutu and head toward the Ngorongoro Crater. Upon arrival, you descend into the crater for a game drive in one of Africa’s most unique wildlife areas. The crater offers a high concentration of animals within a relatively small area, making it one of the best places to see a variety of species in a short time. You may encounter lions, elephants, buffalo, and with some luck, the rare black rhino. The landscape inside the crater is beautiful, with open grasslands, small lakes, and a hippo pool. After enjoying a picnic lunch inside the crater, you continue your exploration before heading back. This day provides a strong contrast to Ndutu, offering a different type of wildlife experience.

The peak calving window is from late January to early March. February is widely considered the absolute best month, as this is when the highest number of births roughly 8,000 per day occur.

The primary action takes place in the  Ndutu region, which straddles the border of the Southern Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

You will take a domestic flight from Arusha to Zanzibar. The flight is short and comfortable. Transfers are arranged on both sides.

Yes. Most 6-day calving itineraries include a descent into the Ngorongoro Crater, which is one of the best places in Africa to spot the entire Big Five in a single day, including the rare black rhino

Most tours begin in Arusha You can reach Ndutu via a 6-hour drive through scenic landscapes or a quick internal flight directly to the Ndutu or Kusini airstrips.

You can relax at the beach or join optional activities like snorkeling and boat trips. Cultural tours and spice tours are also available. The days are flexible based on your preference.

While never guaranteed, spending 2-3 full days in the Ndutu area during the February peak significantly increases your chances of witnessing a live birth.

Absolutely. The Ndutu region is home to over 400 bird species. During the calving season, you can also see migratory birds and large numbers of flamingos on Lake Ndutu.
